About FRR

1992 - The Beginning

On a warm summer night in 1992, four nineteen-year-olds sat in a cluttered garage in Ventura, California. Before them lay the stripped-down frame of a Yamaha FZ, its parts scattered across the floor, waiting to be brought back to life. As they took in the chaos of metal and components, an idea sparked—a shared hunger for speed and performance.

Fueled by excitement and ambition, they talked deep into the night about rebuilding the bike and pushing the limits of its 600cc engine, even with little money and a lot of determination. The air buzzed with possibility. As their eyes shifted between the bare frame and a pile of Airtech fairings nearby, a phrase cut through the noise and stuck: “Freedom Rock Racing—Just Tune It Up.”

In that moment, a dream was born—one that would stay with them for years to come.

In the days that followed that night, the engine was meticulously rebuilt, the bike given a fresh coat of paint, and the scattered pieces brought back together into a gleaming machine. Before long, the roar of their creation echoed through the canyons and tracks of Southern California.

Fueled by an unrelenting hunger for speed, the group continued to push their limits—testing both their machines and themselves. Every ride became a balance of courage and control, every turn an opportunity to go faster than before. In the pursuit of that rush, they refined their skills and forged an even stronger bond, driving one another to ride harder, dig deeper, and live fully for the thrill.

What Freedom Rock Racing stood for 30 years ago still carries the same meaning today. The wild, fast-paced chase for adrenaline may have slowed, but the remaining members continue to ride on—bound by the same passion that sparked it all.

At its core, Freedom Rock Racing is built on a simple idea: living with freedom and friendship at the center of everything. It’s about pushing limits, embracing the thrill of the ride, and valuing the bonds forged along the way. On the track and in life, it’s a commitment to stay driven—to keep growing, keep moving forward, and keep the spirit of FRR alive.

FREEDOM

The sense of freedom that wraps around you on a bike, in a car, or behind the wheel of an SXS is unmatched. It’s the surge that comes from pinning the throttle, from feeling the raw power of the engine—roaring ahead of you, rumbling behind you, or cradled between your legs.

In those moments, liberation is found in pushing your machine to its limits, testing its endurance without restraint or second thought. Speed becomes a language, adrenaline the pulse driving every decision. It’s an intoxicating blend of excitement and defiance—a relentless chase of the edge, a dance with danger that offers no mercy, daring you to embrace the wild ride of life itself.

ROCK

Embrace whatever you climb into or straddle with unbridled enthusiasm, and refuse to settle for anything less than exhilarating. Push it to its fullest extent—ride, drive, or race until it can go no further. When it falters, don’t shy away; fix it, learn from the experience, and dive back in.

This relentless pursuit of excellence demands that you challenge the limits, transforming “meh” into something extraordinary. Each setback becomes an opportunity to grow stronger, to innovate, and to chase the thrill with renewed vigor. Keep pushing, keep evolving—let the journey be as fierce and dynamic as the machines that carry you through it.

RACING

Compete not with others, but with yourself—relentlessly striving to surpass your own achievements. Let each milestone serve as a stepping stone toward a stronger, more capable version of who you’re becoming, and embrace the transformative power of growth along the way. In that same spirit, inspire those around you to chase their passions with unwavering determination, encouraging them to push the limits of their potential while honoring their individual strengths and pace.

When challenges arise, meet them with resolve and give everything you have. The true essence of the journey isn’t found in outpacing others, but in fostering camaraderie, mutual support, and shared ambition. Together, you ignite one another’s potential—lifting each other to heights once thought unreachable. Every ride becomes an opportunity not only for personal discovery, but for collective triumphs that forge lasting bonds and leave behind a legacy of adventure and strength.

Father and son - passing the torch to the next generation

LEGACY

Freedom Rock Racing embodies the spirit of adventure, resilience, and community. It represents the exhilarating pursuit of speed and performance while celebrating the freedom to explore open roads and uncharted trails. This passion for racing goes beyond competition—it’s a way to connect with like-minded individuals, share experiences, and build lasting camaraderie.

At its core, Freedom Rock Racing is about pushing limits, embracing challenges, and finding joy in the journey. Every race and every ride serve as a reminder of what it means to live life on our own terms—honoring the outdoors and savoring the moments that truly define us.

The relentless pursuit of heart-pumping adrenaline is a craving that can never be fully satisfied. As we’ve grown older, we’ve stepped into the role of mentors, passing our passion, experience, and hard-earned knowledge on to the next generation.

That belief in pushing boundaries and embracing the thrill of the ride lives on. We teach them to show no mercy, hammer down, and seize every moment. Together, we’re building a legacy of courage and enthusiasm—keeping the fire burning bright and inspiring future riders to chase their own adventures.

Born and raised in the coastal town of Ventura, Dave stands as the heart and soul of FRR. His journey began behind the parts counter of a local motorcycle shop, where he first crossed paths with the other members of the team. It was there that he not only forged lasting friendships but also ignited a shared passion for mechanics and motorbikes.

From his humble garage to Kenn’s garage,  to Leo’s Body Shop, Dave has always been a steadfast presence, turning wrenches and imparting his extensive knowledge to fellow enthusiasts. Fearless in his pursuit of understanding, he often dives headfirst into complex projects, dismantling and rebuilding engines while guiding others through each intricate step.

Moreover, Dave is equally at ease behind the camera. His multifaceted contributions, both technical and creative, are the glue that binds FRR together, inspiring all who have the privilege to work alongside him. Dave has appeared on both  Fox's Simple Life and Paramounts Bar Rescue.

One of the founding members of our team, Kenn was in that garage one fateful night in Ventura, California. Now calling Washington State home, his journey took a defining turn after surviving a serious motorcycle accident—one stroke of fortune that allowed him to walk away and rethink his pursuit of adrenaline.

That moment redirected his passion into a wide-ranging world of machines and vehicles. For more than two decades, Kenn has immersed himself in the art of tinkering, working across an array of platforms both on- and off-road. Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, he spends countless hours researching, testing, and fabricating parts, all in pursuit of a better driving experience.

Chasing the ultimate adrenaline rush, Kenn continues a journey that pushes the boundaries of comfort and fear. For him, it’s more than just the thrill—it’s an exploration of limits and an embrace of the unknown, a testament to resilience and determination.

Whether carving across sun-baked dunes, navigating rugged desert terrain, or meticulously fine-tuning performance on the dyno, Kenn seizes every opportunity to push both machine and self to the edge. His unwavering passion for speed and performance is a reminder that while the ride may change, the thrill of the chase remains eternal.

Aaron was one of those rare souls who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. A true friend, he embraced life with an infectious enthusiasm that made every moment spent together unforgettable. We shared countless nights and early mornings at his father’s body shop, Leo’s Paint & Body Shop in Ventura, CA, where his mastery as a mechanic was only rivaled by his passion for fishing, NASCAR racing, and the great outdoors.

With a heart as kind as it was tender, Aaron had an uncanny ability to bring people together. His quick laugh and engaging stories made him a beloved figure among friends, many of whom affectionately dubbed him "Redneck." The team misses those hour-long conversations that effortlessly drifted from laughter to deep reflection, as well as the vibrant personality that lit up every gathering. Aaron wasn’t just a friend; he was a reminder of the joy in simplicity and the beauty of life.

Jun was an incredible rider, a true friend, and one of the funniest people you could ever meet. With his fearless spirit, he pushed the limits of his CB400, gaining a reputation for his impressive traffic light endos that left everyone in awe. In the garage, where we turned wrenches and shared laughter, you could always count on Jun to stir up some good-natured mischief. As the undisputed king of practical jokes, he had a knack for bringing joy to even the longest days, making us laugh until our sides hurt.

Jun had an insatiable curiosity for new technology, constantly introducing innovative ideas that kept our group energized and excited. But beyond his infectious humor and tech-savvy mind, what truly set him apart was his unwavering support. He was always ready to drop everything and lend a helping hand whenever needed, embodying the spirit of friendship. You are deeply missed, Jun, and the void you left in our lives is felt every day.
